This is for the IT/computer techies out there.

One of our members has been having problems connecting to ChariceDiva (specifically) for a few weeks now. She tried some troubleshooting but still to no avail. She's done these so far: cleaned cache, cookies, browser, registry, temp files, three virus scans, resetting her modem/router. She's, also, tried using a different browser, Firefox, as well as using her son's computer (which I assume she connected to the same internet). From what I can infer is that it probably has something to do with her actual internet connection.

The two errors she's getting

"Connection timed out."

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

And it doesn't seem to be a ChariceDiva error because we all can log into it.

Can anyone provide any insight/tips that can help her out?
Would really appreciate it!!!!!

-kb

kooler - I'm assuming she has access to other sites (so I'm not even going to ask), have her go to this site for troubleshooting tips:
for message: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196
*looks like she's tried some of the steps, but there are more she can try.

for message: "connection timed out"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181050

Questions:
Can she even load the CDiva homepage?
Can she access other phpBB type of sites?

I wish her luck...

Yes, she can access other websites. I just asked if she can access other phpbb forums. She can't get anywhere on ChariceDiva.com. When she tries to access the site, she receives either of the two errors.

I just sent her the links, we'll see if she lucks out with any of the suggest solutions.

Thanks. *fingers crossed*

..

You could ask her to tunnel in the link : http://forum.charicediva.com using

1) Google translate : (try my link ) http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... h-CN&tl=en

she will need to input ChariceDiva.com link (http://forum.charicediva.com) there then try logging in

or

2) She could try using a Proxy: http://www.daproxy.biz/
same procedure : she will need to input ChariceDiva.com link (http://forum.charicediva.com) there then try logging in

Hope this works for her temporarily.. (note i have tested these steps myself and worked for me)

two basic type of proxy tech:

A) redirector sites, fully automated
you just enter the URL you want to visit.
this may be slow, and not entirely compatible with some website. sometimes they display nagging ads...

B) change browser to actual IP proxy
given you found a proxy server to use, you'll have to activate "proxy" in your browser and insert IP and port there (you found your proxy means you know this info).
then you can switch it on and off.
compatiblilty with hitech websites will be better this way.
commercial proxies will be quite fast. but there are thousands of free and inofficial ones.
(don't know what to do when you are proxified already from your home or company network)

---------
gud luck! :kickball:

Hey guys,
Here's an update from our fellow member, she was able to log-in using a proxy. yay!
But she's having problem clicking links. She's doing an update right now on her PC.. so i'll find out if that helped.
But thanks so much guys, because at least now she sees ChariceDiva and can log in :)

Cool! Glad to hear using a proxy worked...must be in an area (locale) where they restrict internet access/content or her ISP is just very restrictive in general. If it's the latter, get a different ISP.

If she has a laptop with WiFi, have her connect at a public wireless access point (or a friends wired/wireless connection) and see if she has the same problems.

Again, good luck to her.

She said earlier today that she can only login, but can't click on links. Now, I don't know if that's a CDiva problem or still a problem on her end. I'm racking my brain still trying to figure it out.

=\

So is she only having problems with links in CDiva?

Yup, just with us. She can access the other fan sites. =\

the link problem most certainly comes from proxy type A (see above)

she needs a real IP proxy B, preferrably https, that does not fudge with the html content.
if links are computed in javascript, this method is likely to fail.

((didn't analyze the scripts here, but class="postlink" makes it possible to intercept the link clicks at DOM level e.g. to create a statistics database))

Thanks, bluedanube.. I just sent your info over to her, hopefully it works.
